I have a very simple response to the Post-Bulletin commentary on the proposal by Southeast Minnesota Peacemakers Alliance that the city of Rochester make some type of statement that guns are not welcome on some city property.
The typical Minnesota Conceal and Carry permit holders do so because they fear criminals and the harm they may cause them or a member of their family in the act of committing a violent crime.
Folks who oppose the Minnesota Conceal-and-Carry law fear lawful permit holders who have passed a state and federal criminal background check, have shown to be mentally competent, have taken approved training and have the blessing of the sheriff of their county, the Legislature, the governor and the U.S. Constitution.
Time for a reality check!
The cause-of-the-month club would like to get the city to make a statement on something that would actually have an impact on our lives here in Rochester. How about getting a statement requesting that drivers obey traffic signals and go the posted speed limits. In other words, a real issue that has real impact and not just another opportunity for the cause-of-the-month club to get some free press.
