A rural Dexter barn was destroyed early Monday morning in a fire likely caused by lightning.
The Mower County dispatch received a call about 5:15 a.m. Monday for a report of a barn fire in the 28000 block of 760th Avenue in rural Dexter, according to Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik. Deputies arrived to find the barn fully engulfed in flames.
Dexter and Brownsdale Fire Departments were sent to put out the fire. No injuries were reported and the barn did not contain any animals. The structure is considered a total loss.
It is believed that a lightning strike ignited the fire.
