There will be a grand-opening event and community celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at One Discovery Square, 202 Fourth St. SW.

Several events are being planned for next week to highlight Destination Medical Center’s progress as the DMC annual meeting is held.

A grand-opening event and community celebration will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at One Discovery Square, 202 Fourth St. SW.

The public is invited to the open house featuring the 90,000-square-foot healthcare innovation campus, developed by Mortenson and managed by The Musicant Group.

A short presentation is planned for 4:15 p.m. followed by a group photo at 4:25 p.m. During the event, several One Discovery Square tenants, including Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota Rochester, Epic, Boston Scientific, and others will feature science on display through interactive demonstrations and activities.

Attendees will take self-guided tours and participate in a scavenger hunt through the building.

At the same time, a Discovery Walk interactive experience will be held on Second Street Southwest, between Fourth and Fifth streets.

Using interactive activities and prototypes, organizers plan to help community members visualize the potential for Discovery Walk, a linear parkway along Second Avenue Southwest, which will connect the Heart of the City to Soldiers Field Park.

Threshold Arts and local artists will install a series of engaging art arches along the street, while a chalk artist will draw a 3-D representation of what Discovery Walk might be like. Local organizations will also provide interactive, whimsical outdoor musical instruments, yard games, and unique outdoor furniture. These temporary installations will show the public what Discovery Walk could look like in the future as planning for the project continues.

The free events will be followed by a ticketed outdoor dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the steps outside of One Discovery Square

The annual meeting seeks to bring together stakeholders, project partners, community and business leaders and the public for an evening highlighting ongoing efforts.

Registration and a reception will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Following a 6:30 p.m. dinner, a program at approximately 7:15 p.m., will feature remarks from DMC Corp. Board Chairman R.T. Rybak, DMC Economic Development Agency Board President Jeff Bolton, and DMC EDA Executive Director Lisa Clarke. The DMC leaders will provide updates on ongoing projects, recognize several milestones, and share plans for the future.

The annual meeting is open to the public, with the purchase of a $40 ticket.
