The intersection of Second Street Southeast and First Avenue will close Monday as the next phase of sewer work starts near the Rochester Public Library.
With work closing the intersection, no through traffic will be allowed on Second Street Southeast between Broadway and Third avenues, according to Rochester Public Works.
Additionally, the pedestrian crossing and a portion of the sidewalk at First Avenue will be closed, forcing foot traffic to use the south sidewalk. Sidewalk access to the library will be maintained from the east.
Another change seen Monday will be a reduction in travel lanes on Third Avenue Southeast, which will see a single lane in each direction from the city-county Government Center parking lot to the middle point of the Third Avenue Bridge.
Work on the multi-phased project with an estimated cost of $6.5 million is expected to continue through July 2020.
Funding for the project is made possible by Destination Medical Center state funds and sales tax, as well as sewer and water utility fees.
