Work on the Fourth Street reconstruction project will resume May 7 with plans to be completed in August.

Initial work will focus on bike facilities, boulevards and pedestrian amenities, according to Rochester Public Works.

When the work starts, eastbound traffic lanes will be closed from First Avenue to Sixth Avenue. Westbound traffic is expected to be maintained, but the intersection at Third Avenue will be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians.

When completed, the street will feature shorter crosswalks for pedestrian safety; a curbless intersection at Second Street Avenue, which is planned as Discovery Walk; protected bike lanes, new traffic signals and an increase in on-street parking stalls.
