A Gold Cross ambulance leaves the scene of a head-on crash at the intersection of Olmsted County Road 1 and 75th Street Southeast on Monday. The two drivers were critically injured.

Two people were critically injured in a head-on crash near Pleasant Grove Township on Monday.

The crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Olmsted County Road 1 and 75th Street Southeast. Nicholas Hanson, 32, of Rochester, was northbound on County Road 1. Patricia Wagner, 57, was southbound on County Road 1, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

Wagner was approaching the intersection and appeared to start making a left turn, when her vehicle and Hanson's vehicle collided on the centerline, according to the sheriff's office report.

Hanson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, which rolled and came to a rest on its passenger side in the east ditch. Authorities said Hanson had two broken legs, a broken left arm and lacerations, according to authorities.

Wagner's vehicle traveled 200 feet into a field after sliding into the west ditch. She had a suspected broken pelvis. Authorities stated she was wearing a seat belt.

Both Hanson and Wagner were transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Hospital - Saint Marys Campus in Rochester. Both underwent surgery and were listed in critical condition.
