Home Federal will donate $15,000 to Channel One Regional Food Bank of Rochester.
The donation will benefit Channel One’s Olmsted County Backpack Program which provides muchneeded meals for 1,200 elementary and middle school students in our community.
The Channel One Olmsted County Backpack Program serves students in 20 schools throughout the area. The program discreetly delivers meals to in-need students with backpacks that are taken home over the weekend and out-of-school times.
Every week local partners help fill backpacks with nutritious, child-friendly food and teachers distribute them to children on Fridays.
Students take the backpacks home and return them on Mondays for community partners to refill by the following Friday.
Children enrolled in the program are selected based on their eligibility for free and reduced-price lunches. In fact, a gift of $72 helps feed one child on weekends for the duration of the school year.
“No child should have to go home hungry. By donating to Channel One, we are able to help fight hunger right here in Olmsted County,” said Chief Executive Officer, Brad Krehbiel in a press release. “Channel One changes lives everyday by providing meals for those in need, and Home Federal is proud to support their mission.”
A public presentation of the $15,000 check to Channel One will occur on Monday, December 9 at 2pm. Channel One is located at 131 35th St. S.E. in Rochester.
