2. Pride, no prejudice

The main event is canceled, but there are still plenty of Pridefest-related events on this weekend’s calendar. Among them: a youth pride prom at 6:30 tonight at the Rochester Public Library; tonight’s Dragagonza drag show at the International Event Center; and a pride potluck picnic noon Saturday at Peace United Church. The Rochester Public Library’s popular Pride Prom event returns Saturday.

For the fifth year in a row, the library is hosting the teens-only after-party for LGBTQIA+ teens. The “Totally '80s” themed event features food, games, activities and community organizations, along with music programmed by Rochester's Music Department and Riverside Concerts.

“The library is a welcoming space and we want our local teens to have a venue for being themselves,” organizer and Teen Librarian Sarah Joynt said. “Pride Prom gives teens the opportunity to have a fun, welcoming prom in a safe environment.”

Pride Prom is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the library. Teens in grades 7 to 12 can participate and must show a school or state ID at the door, unless prior arrangements have been made. Teens without an ID can contact Joynt at sjoynt@rplmn.org to make other arrangements.
