A day after announcing a new executive director, the Rochester Downtown Alliance Board of Directors revealed the name of the organization’s new events manager.

Monika Kopet, the former events coordinator at the Autism Society of Minnesota, is taking management of RDA’s core events portfolio, which includes more than 30 days of activity through nine events.

Among the events are RDA staples that have been credited with helping bring crowds of people back to downtown. Annual events include SocialICE and the recently renamed Thursdays Downtown street festival, previously called Thursdays on First & Third.

“I love creating relationships in the community and fostering partnerships that can help organizations continue to grow,” Kopet said in a statement announcing her hire. “What excites me most about this position with the RDA is the opportunity to work with the amazing businesses, organizations, and people in downtown Rochester. The RDA’s events showcase the energy and vibrancy of the downtown community, and I’m thrilled to help continue and advance the great work of the RDA.”

In addition to her work with the Autism Society of Minnesota, Kopet has been the events and tour manager at the historic Wabasha Street Caves in Saint Paul and has worked on large festivals such as the Saint Paul Winter Carnival and Twin Cities Pride.

The RDA was formed in 2005 as a public-private partnership funded by a portion of property taxes paid by commercial property owners in a 44-block downtown service district.
