RED WING — If you love a good six-string, Red Wing is the place to be this weekend.

Saturday and Sunday, the city will welcome the Great River Guitar Show at a variety of venues around town.

Organizer Tim Reede said, "Red Wing has long been the destination for weekend getaways due to the charm of the historic downtown and Mississippi River. When the Great River Guitar Show comes to town, there will be another attraction for the public to enjoy — two days of exhibits and concerts showcasing the very best stringed instruments."

Reede, a graduate of Minnesota State College-Southeast's Guitar Repair and Building Program, has arranged for workshops, displays and venues featuring acoustic guitar music.

The main show venue will be the campus of MSC-SE from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The $15 admission gets access to more than 30 exhibitors showing handmade acoustic guitars, an exhibit of unique and historic stringed instruments, screenings of the movies "Acoustic Uprising" and "Don't Get Trouble in Your Mind," open acoustic music jam sessions, and workshops for guitar players with Tim Sparks, Mark Kreitzer, Jerry Kozak, Mike Cramer, and Pat Donohue.

Additionally, from 6-8 p.m. Friday there will be an acoustic guitar showcase with Sam Breckenridge, Dan Schwartz and Ben Abrahamson at Marie's Underground Grill.

On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., The Sheldon Theatre will host "Masters of Guitar in Concert" featuring instrumentalists Pat Donohue, Tim Sparks and Dean Magraw. Tickets are sold separately at www.sheldontheatre.org.

Finally on Sunday from 5-7 p.m., The Harbor Bar will host Annie Mack and her band to close out the weekend.
