AUSTIN -- A memorial service for Lois E. Graffeo will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Allan Flint officiating. The body was cremated.
Mrs. Graffeo, 52, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Austin, died Aug. 24 of complications associated with metastatic melanoma. She was diagnosed with the illness in February and had spent the past several months in treatment at Mayo Clinic.
Lois E. Smith was born Nov. 4, 1950, in Austin, attended Blooming Prairie Schools and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1968. She received an associate degree from Austin Community College and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1974 as a registered dietitian. She held several positions in northern Minnesota, including in St. Cloud and Stevens County. On May 1, 1976, she married Daniel M. "Dan" Graffeo and they relocated to Kansas shortly thereafter. They operated several small businesses during their marriage, the last being TMI Corp.
Survivors include her husband; her father, Sanford Smith of Austin; and three brothers, Charles (Mary Ellen) Smith of Vadnais Heights, Minn., and Warren (Lanita) Smith and Myron (Koryn) Smith, both of Austin. Her mother preceded her in death.
