Byron held off a third-quarter surge by Rochester Lourdes to win the Hiawatha Valley League football game 25-10 Friday.
Byron's Adam Schroeder broke open the game in the second quarter on a 70-yard screen pass, helping the Bears to a 18-0 lead at halftime.
Lourdes' defense stiffened in the third quarter, and the Eagles battled to within 18-10. But a fourth-down attempt on a drive late in the third quarter failed, and Byron came back shortly thereafter to score an insurance touchdown.
"Byron's got a good ballclub," said Lourdes coach Marv Peters. "They came to play in the first half. We didn't really show up until the second half."
Byron's Schroeder provided 73 yards rushing and 80 yards passing in the game.
