Lourdes goalie gets eighth shutout of season

Chelsey Turner recorded her eighth shutout this season, guiding Rochester Lourdes to a 2-0 girls soccer win over Winona Cotter on Thursday.

It was the junior goaltender's fourth shutout in a row.

Lourdes coach Sarah Groven cited Beth Nervig, Kate Beiswanger, Katherine Rohlfing, Lizzie Phillips and Shannon Kelley as all having strong games for the Eagles.

Missy Tousely scored Lourdes' first goal, assisted by Karla Schommer midway through the first half. In the second half, Molly Miller scored from 20 yards out on a restart play.

Groven wished her team would have capitalized more offensively.

"We need to put the ball in the net when we have the chance," she said.

Lourdes plays host to Bloomington Kennedy at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Mayo scoreless in Winona: Rochester Mayo again struggled to muster offense and lost 1-0 at Winona.

It was the fifth shutout loss of the season for Mayo, which is now 5-8 overall.

"I was pretty happy with our intensity and our willingness to go after the ball, but we're continuing to have trouble finding the back of the goal," said Mayo coach Dave Bahr.

Winona scored the only goal three minutes into the game. Mayo had a 9-8 edge in shots on goal.

"Our defense isn't too bad, and we got another great game from our goalkeeper Alyssa Lunde," Bahr noted.

Mayo plays host to Lakeville on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Mayo Stadium.
