Lourdes, Kingsland are 1-2 in 1AA West

In an annual ritual of February, Rochester Lourdes is the No. 1 seed in sub-section girls basketball.

The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class AA, were voted ahead of No. 9-ranked Kingsland in the Section 1AA West Sub-section tournament and receive a bye.

No. 2 seed Kingsland plays one of three quarterfinal games Friday, Feb. 18, meeting No. 7 Kenyon-Wanamingo at 6 p.m. at Stewartville. No. 3 Pine Island faces No. 6 Byron in the 7:30 game at Stewartville. At 7 p.m. at Pine Island, it's No. 4 Zumbrota-Mazeppa vs. No. 5 Stewartville.

Semifinals are 6:30 p.m. games at Mayo Civic Auditorium, with Lourdes vs. Z-M or Stewartville on Feb. 21 and the Kingsland-K-W and PI-Byron winners squaring off on Feb. 22.

The title game is Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m., also at the Civic Auditorium. The West champion plays the East champion at 6:30 p.m. March 3 at the Civic Arena for the Section 1AA title.


Blooming Prairie is the top seed in Section One, Class A's West Sub-section.

Faribault Bethlehem was No. 2, followed by Bethany Academy and Goodhue.

Southland is No. 9 and Lyle/Pacelli No. 10.

Blooming and Goodhue get byes into the Feb. 18 quarterfinals at Austin High School. Southland travels to No. 8 Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and Lyle/Pacelli goes to No. 7 Medford in two of four 7 p.m. first-round games next Tuesday.

Two other quarterfinals are Feb. 19, also at Austin. Semifinals are Feb. 21 and 22 at Mayo Civic Arena and the finals are Feb. 26 at the Civic Auditorium.
