It really wasn’t much of a question of whether Rochester Lourdes would have enough to advance to the state Class A girls tennis tournament.
The thing to pay attention to was how resoundingly the 10-time state defending champion would get there.
Well, now we know. The Eagles never lost a match Wednesday as they romped to a 7-0 win over Winona Cotter in the semifinals at Rochester Athletic Club, then won 7-0 over St. Paul Academy in the finals.
"I thought we played pretty well," Lourdes coach Kevin Rust said. "I was especially pleased with our doubles. We have stepped up in all three (doubles) positions."

The state team tournament is Oct. 24-25 in Minneapolis. Lourdes begins the tournament against the one team that would seem to be able to match up with it, Mounds Park Academy. Lourdes beat MPA 6-1 in last year’s state finals, though the score was expected to be much closer than that.
