Lyle/Pacelli boys and girls both lose to Houston

Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN

Shooting their highest scores of the season resulted in losses for the Lyle/Austin Pacelli boys and girls golf teams on Monday.

The cold and windy conditions at the River Oaks course also led to the highest stroke totals of the season for the visiting Houston Hurricanes. Still, the visitors rolled to a sweep of the Southeast Conference dual meets with a 201-207 win for the boys and a 239-239 win on the girls side.

"It was a tough day on the course," Lyle/Pacelli coach Mark Buntje said. "The kids have endured some brutal conditions so far this season."

The lone highlight for the L/P boys was the co-medalist round of Matt Buntje. Sevie Knutson and Buntje shot identical rounds of 45 on the day to share the medalist honors. Those two were the only scores for the boys in the 40s.

Erin Knutson of Houston was the medalist in the girls meet. Emily Leif shot the low round for the L/P girls, but she finished a dozen strokes off the pace.

L/P boys (2-3, 2-3 SEC) play in the Rebel Invitational on Thursday at the Cedar River Country Club in Adams. This quadrangular will be hosted by the Southland/Grand Meadow boys with Glenville-Emmons and LeRoy-Ostrander also competing in the event.

L/P girls (1-4, 1-4 SEC) will join the boys in hosting a SEC dual meet at home on Friday afternoon against Glenville-Emmons.
