The Lyle/Austin Pacelli baseball team won its second straight Southeast Conference game via the 10-run rule on Tuesday at Marcusen Park.

Rolling up huge run totals in the first two innings, the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics buried visiting Schaeffer Academy by a 14-2 count in five innings. The Athletics scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone in the conference rout.

Colin Sheehan got the pitching start for the Athletics, and he fired blanks at the Schaeffer hitters for the first three innings. With their pitcher keeping the other team in check, the Athletics exploded for eight runs and broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning.

"We came out hitting the ball right off the bat in the first inning," L/P coach Steve Baumann said. "Colin got us going by throwing a shutout for the first three innings. He shut them down and they only had a runner in each inning."

Nate Williamson, Mike Lonergan, Cody Meyer, Aaron Juenger, and Carter Guthmiller all recorded multiple hits for L/P in the offensive onslaught.

The run totals continued to mount and the end was in sight after the third inning. It was a 14-0 lead after the third inning, then Schaeffer Academy scored a couple of late runs to avert the shutout.

Lyle/Pacelli (2-2, 2-1 SEC) plays at Mabel-Canton on Thursday.
