Lyle/Pacelli struggles with rough road trip

Post-Bulletin, Austin MN

SPRING GROVE — Errors by Lyle/Austin Pacelli led to early runs for Spring Grove/Caledonia and a lopsided win in Monday’s softball game.

After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, SG/C added seven more in the second to take control of the Southeast Conference contest. The home team went on to an 11-1 win in five innings over Lyle/Pacelli Athletics.

"We’re inexperienced in the outfield and we had some dropped balls," L/P coach Denny Bray said. "We gave them too many outs, and they scored a lot of runs to put the game away in the early innings. This was our first road game of the season, so the girls will learn from their mistakes."

Emily Rysavy pitched for Lyle/Pacelli and suffered her first loss of the season in two starts. Rysavy issued four walks and hit a batter.

The only offense on the day for the Athletics came from Rysavy in the top of the second inning. After reaching base with a leadoff single, Rysavy was on her way to second when Breanna Bartholomew laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Spring Grove/Caledonia had a fielding error on the bunt and the throw went into right field. Rysavy then went to third and Bartholomew was safe at first. Rysavy next scored on sacrifice fly by Dani Felten, but Bartholomew was eventually left stranded on base.

"This only our second time playing outside on the season and the first time in nearly a week, so the girls had some trouble in the field," Bray said. "This was the sixth game overall for Spring Grove/Caledonia and with their experience they took advantage of our errors."

Lyle/Pacelli (1-1, 1-1 SEC) plays a home game this afternoon against Houston at the North Todd Park complex.
