Wild reassign Reitz, name Demitra captain for first month
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild reassigned defenseman Erik Reitz to the minors on Tuesday, finalizing their roster for the regular season.
They have 24 players right now, but defenseman Sean Hill won’t count against the limit until he completes the remaining 19 games of his drug suspension. Hill tested positive last April for an anabolic steroid, boldenone, he said he did not knowingly take.
The Wild host the Chicago Blackhawks in Thursday’s opener. Matt Foy and rookie James Sheppard landed spots on the roster, but they’re expected to be healthy scratches for now. Defenseman Kurtis Foster has an injured groin muscle and might not play against the Blackhawks.
Also on Tuesday, the Wild named forward Pavol Demitra their captain for October. Fellow forwards Brian Rolston and Wes Walz are the permanent alternate captains for the season.
