WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Michele Bachmann and GOP candidate Erik Paulsen have built modest leads in their respective House races with about half the precincts reporting.

Bachmann, a freshman Republican hoping to survive a gaffe last month, led Democratic challenger Elwyn Tinklenberg, 47.3 percent to 42.4 percent, with 55 percent of precincts reporting. That’s in the 6th District.
Paulsen led Democrat Ashwin Madia (mah-DEE’-ah) 47 percent to 41.7 percent, with 49 percent of precincts reporting in the 3rd District. The winner will replace GOP Rep. Jim Ramstad, a moderate who is retiring after 18 years. The district has been in GOP hands since 1961.
The state’s other six incumbents all easily won re-election Tuesday: Republican John Kline and Democrats Tim Walz, Keith Ellison, Jim Oberstar, Collin Peterson and Betty McCollum.
