Maggie Cassidy — Wabasha

WABASHA — Maggie Cassidy, 77, of Wabasha, died Sunday (Nov. 9, 2008), following a brief illness with lung cancer.

Born July 9, 1931, she was a 1948 graduate of Wabasha High School, then attended Hamline University in St. Paul before graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1952 with a degree in International Relations. She went to work for the U.S. State Department, first in Washington, D.C., and later in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America. She returned to the United States, married Alan Greene, and reared her family in Mound, Minn. She retired and settled in Wabasha. She was involved in many environmental and civic activities as a member of the Green Party, and volunteered and supported the Jon Hassler Theater in Plainview, St. Elizabeth’s Auxiliary in Wabasha, the Izaak Walton League, the Rivers Junction Arts Council, and the local food shelf.

She is survived by two sons, Chris Greene of Spring Park, Minn., and Jeff (Julie) Greene of Mound; a granddaughter, Alanna Charlotte Greene; and a brother, Dick (Harriet) Duerre of Bloomington, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Alpha Duerre; and a brother, Paul Duerre.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
