MAKEOVER Area man hit by pickup still in hospital

From staff reports

SPRING VALLEY -- A 21-year-old Spring Valley man hit by a pickup truck Wednesday night remains hospitalized.

Andy Foster, 21, was injured after he stepped in front of a pickup in Spring Valley about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday and was hit, according to Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen. Jensen said Foster had been drinking alcohol and that that might have played a role in why he stepped from the sidewalk to the street in front of the vehicle.

Foster was treated by Spring Valley ambulance workers and then flown to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

The driver of the pickup, Joshua Leibfried, 18, was not injured. Jensen said Leibfried will not be charged because he did nothing wrong.

"This young man ran out in front of him, and there was no place else for him to go," Jensen said.

Foster was still under the truck when officers arrived, Jensen said. A Mayo Clinic spokeswoman said Foster was in serious condition today at Saint Marys.
