A 29-year-old Rochester man was hugging his new girlfriend when he was stabbed twice in the back Tuesday night at a Rochester soccer field parking lot.

Police Lt. Casey Moilanen said the alleged suspect was a former boyfriend or spouse of the woman and was arrested early this morning in Anoka County.

Police were called to Olmsted Medical Center hospital emergency room after the man arrived for treatment of injuries. Moilanen said officers were told the man had gone to meet his new girlfriend in one of the parking lots at the Fuad Mansour soccer complex nearby.

They were hugging when he was stabbed twice in the back, allegedly by her former partner. Moilanen said the two got into her car and the suspect then punched the woman in the face through the open car window. He then drove away. The woman drove her boyfriend to the hospital emergency room.

Moilanen said the man was treated for non life-threatening stab wounds and has been released from the hospital. Police put out a teletype alert to other law enforcement agencies in the state to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle.

The 22-year-old Rochester suspect was arrested in Anoka County about 2 a.m. today, Moilanen said. He will be returned to Rochester.
