A tank carrying liquid manure tipped over and spilled into a ditch Saturday afternoon south of Adams, the sheriff says.
About 2 p.m. Kevin Doyle Hansen, 51, of rural Austin, was driving a tractor connected to a tank containing liquid manure when he swerved to avoid colliding with a mail box along Mower County 6, Sheriff Terese Amazi said. The move led to the tank tipping into the south-side ditch, spilling liquid manure, she said.
Hansen wasn’t injured in the incident, which occurred just west of Mower County 7 in Adams Township, Amazi said. A towing service was called to the scene.

The sheriff didn’t know how much manure spilled into the ditch but said the matter was referred to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
A call for details from the MPCA office in Rochester wasn’t returned immediately Monday afternoon.
