Marian A. Halverson — Harmony

HARMONY — The Mass of Christian Burial for Marian A. Halverson will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in rural Canton.

Mrs. Halverson, 87, died Friday (April 25, 2008) at Harmony Health Care.

Marian Agnes Walsh was born May 19, 1920, in Harmony. She attended rural school and graduated as valedictorian of her class in Harmony, and graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester in 1947. On June 3, 1947, she married Oliver Halverson. They farmed near Harmony for 17 years. In 1964, the family moved to Marshall, Minn., and two years later to the Twin Cities area.

In Marshall and the Twin Cities, Mrs. Halverson worked in local hospitals. The couple had also purchased a grocery store in Racine, which they operated for a number of years. They retired to La Crosse, Wis., for 17 years before eventually returning to Harmony. Mrs. Halverson’s interests included cooking, baking, antiques, and history, and her children and grandchildren were a special delight. She was also active in the Catholic churches where she lived.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Chuck (Joan) of Elk River, Minn., Larry (Sue) of Las Vegas and Philip (Ann) of Byron; two daughters, Mary Beth (Gary) Miller of Ham Lake, Minn., and Emma Jean (Butch) Bollig of Austin; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
