Marketing, risk protection star at NFO convention

CORALVILLE, Iowa — The National Farmers Organization Convention will be this week at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville.

The general session begins on Tuesday featuring President Paul Olson's address, along with Outstanding Young Producer Awards.

Jan. 20 brings Commodity Education Day, when marketing representatives will conduct workshops in the afternoon. The Dairy Division will focus on its new project with Ganeden Biotech, and the new product offerings the probiotic milk effort will provide.

Livestock Division representatives will put on two workshops, focusing members on success stories and on strategies they can use in 2010, to ramp up their profit picture.

The Grain Division will highlight its new National Farmers Crop Insurance offering, which can be combined with smart grain marketing strategies to put producers in the upper levels of the annual marketing range. Representatives will be on hand to visit with conventional and organic producers, and provide one-on-one market advice.

R-CALF USA's Herman Schumacher will visit with members Jan. 21 as business wraps up.

The Convention Tour '10, featuring "The Life and Times of Herbert Hoover" with a special lunch will wrap up the convention.
