ZUMBROTA -- The funeral for Martha A. Nelson will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, with the Revs. Wayne Radke and Darin Easler co-officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson, 73, of Zumbrota, a homemaker, died Friday (April 19, 2002) at Charter House in Rochester.
Martha Arlene Dahl was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Ellendale, Minn., grew up in the Albert Lea area and graduated from Freeborn High School in 1947. After graduating from Minneapolis Business College in 1948, she was a bookkeeper in Minneapolis until her marriage on Feb. 25, 1951, to Melroy L. Nelson at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea. They farmed on the Nelson family farm. Her husband died Jan. 9. Mrs. Nelson was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church and WELCA, was culinary coordinator for the Goodhue County Fair for many years and volunteered with Zumbrota Area Hospice. She enjoyed playing bridge, baking and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, LeAnn (Jon) Stee of Zumbrota, Cheryl Nelson (Geoff Lehy) of Carlsbad, Calif., and Mary (Brad) Birmingham of Zumbrota; a son, Neil (Tina) of Morrow, Ohio; five grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (Harold) Mouw of Albert Lea; and three brothers, Omar (Donna) Dahl, Chester (Jewell) Dahl and John (Marvyl) Dahl, all of Albert Lea. A brother also preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
