Mary Margaret Roberts -- Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY -- A funeral Mass for Mary Margaret Roberts will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Miss Roberts, 90, of Spring Valley, a retired teacher, died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at Spring Valley Care Center, where she had lived 21⁄2; years.

Born Sept. 5, 1911, in Bennington Township, Fillmore County, she graduated from LeRoy High School when she was 15, attended Winona State Teachers College for two years and later received a four-year degree from Winona State. She began her 42-year teaching career in the same rural school she had attended, later taught elementary education in Taopi, Wykoff, Racine, Grand Meadow and Albert Lea schools and then taught fifth grade at Woodson School in Austin for 18 years. She moved to Spring Valley after retirement. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley and enjoyed reading, baking, crocheting, latch-hooking and dancing.

Survivors include two sisters, Patricia Mengis of Mabel and Maurece Williams of Spring Valley. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley and an hour before the service Monday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday.
