AUSTIN -- A memorial service for Max Scott was Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Onamia, Minn., with the Rev. Richard Fitzer officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Scott, 81, of Onamia, formerly of Austin, died Aug. 6, 2002, in Onamia.
He was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Austin and married Elizabeth Wolfe on May 11, 1941, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin. They lived in Austin until moving to the Mille Lacs Lake area after retirement. From May 1944 to January 1946 he served in the Navy and was a fireman first class on the USS Strong in the South Pacific. Mr. Scott was a butcher at Hormel Foods Corp. for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Austin Vets Club, Onamia American Legion Post 395 and Cedar Valley Conservation Club, and enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing and playing cribbage.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; a daughter, Susan Scott of Woodbury, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, two granddaughters, four brothers and a sister.
Shelley Funeral Chapel in Onamia was in charge of arrangements.
