Maynard Wayne Denny -- Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Maynard Wayne Denny will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Gregory Havel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Denny, 72, of Stewartville, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at his home of pancreatic cancer. He had been ill 21⁄2; years. He was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Stewartville. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Stewartville High School. He enlisted in the Air Force on Feb. 1, 1950, and graduated with the first class of Snark Misseliers. He married Barbara Jean Kukuzke at St. Bernard's church on June 7, 1951. The couple lived at various Air Force bases until his discharge in November 1974 in North Dakota. He worked as general manager of Great Plains Lumber in Lansford, N.D., and for Boeing Corp. until his retirement in 1986. Mrs. Denny was a federal employee for 23 years until her retirement in 1986. He was a past member of St. Bernard's and a member of the Stewartville American Legion, where he served as commander in 1955. The couple moved to Stewartville in 2001. He enjoyed playing cards, coin collecting and hunting.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Alan of Lansford, Jon (Lisa) of Moorhead, Minn., and Richard (Sally) of Deep River, Iowa; a daughter, Jacquelyn Seay of Lansford; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene Emonds of Pittsgrove, N.J.

He was preceded in death by a son and two granddaughters.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., and one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
