Mayo boys soccer, for Web 10-17

Rochester Mayo reaped a nice reward this summer when it learned that it was getting a soccer-playing exchange student from Venezuela.

Never did Rodrigo Lepervanche prove his value more than he did Tuesday night in the Section One, Class AA championship game with Rochester Century.

Lepervanche had two goals and an assist, including the game winner on a header in overtime as the Spartans prevailed 3-2 at Mayo Stadium.

It landed Mayo in the state tournament for the second time in four years. The Spartans take a 14-5 record into the event, which begins next week.

Century finished 11-6-2.
