Mayo Clinic receives $1.2 million in grants

Mayo Clinic has been awarded more than $1.2 million by the Department of Health and Human Services for research projects.

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute awarded Mayo $361,250 for fat gain and cardiovascular diseases mechanisms research, and $353,960 for myocardial perfusion quantitation with dual spectra research.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded Mayo $357,319 for FFA metabolism in different types of obesity research. The institute also awarded $255,000 for androgenic inactivation of FKHR in prostate cancer.

U.S. Rep. Gil Gutknecht, a member of the House Science Committee, announced the awards Monday.
