Mayo rallies, tops Century

Rochester Mayo fought back from a one-run deficit with three runs in the fifth inning to knock off Rochester Century 6-2 in the season-opener for both teams in Big Nine Conference softball Wednesday at Mayo.

Amelia Jajowka had three hits and two RBIs for Mayo, and Sarah Bohlen had a triple and two RBIs.

The winning pitcher was Kalli Clark. She went all seven innings and allowed six hits and walked three. Losing pitcher was Steph Klein. She allowed 10 hits in lasting six innings.

It was Clark’s first start as a varsity player.

"She got stronger as the game went on," Mayo coach Steve Riles said.

Mayo is without senior pitcher Leah VanWettering as she nurses a tendon injury in her right foot. She is expected to be out 10 days.

Century got three hits from Lindsey Mills, including a triple. She scored both her team’s runs. Klein was 2-for-3 with a double.

Mayo also got an RBI from Katie Garretson.
