First District Congressman Gil Gutknecht's office has announced that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded more than $600,000 to Mayo Clinic for research projects.
Two grants were awarded:
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute awarded $328,500 for type 2 diabetes and vascular regulation under a heart and vascular diseases research program.
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases awarded $271,660 to provide treatment and study the cause and origin of parathyroid bone disease under an arthritis, musculoskeletal and skin diseases research program.
