LAKEVILLE — Make it six straight trips to the state boys tennis tournament for Rochester Mayo.

The Spartans did it again Tuesday, making relatively easy work of promising teams Century and Winona. No. 3 Class AA ranked Mayo beat Century 6-1 in the semifinals at Lakeville South, then dropped Winona by the same score.

The section title sets up a likely rugged first-round matchup at state for Mayo. The Spartans figure to face No. 2 Edina in the quarterfinals on June 3. The Hornets handed Mayo one of its two losses this season, winning 6-1.

Mayo got terrific work from its doubles teams in the section tournament. Mayo swept both Century and Winona in doubles.

"We played two very good teams today and both put the majority of their top players into doubles," Mayo coach Jeff Demaray said. "I am so proud of the way our team stepped up to meet the challenge."
