Megamall lands fishing retailer, arts auditorium

BLOOMINGTON, Minn — Bass Pro Shops will be among the new tenants in the Mall of America’s 5.6 million-square-foot expansion, mall officials announced Monday.

The fishing retailer plans to build a superstore that will include a boat showroom, as well as a broad assortment of fishing and hunting gear. Bass Pro Shops stores contain wildlife dioramas, climbing walls, archery ranges and murals of outdoor scenes. The company is based in Springfield, Mo.

Other new tenants will include a 6,000-seat performing arts auditorium, to be built by AEG Worldwide, of Los Angeles, and a 202-room hotel that will be built by San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants.

Mall officials also said a new roller coaster would debut in 2008. Construction on the expansion was expected to begin in mid-2007.
