Men will start print version of newspaper

DULUTH — The former publisher and general manager of the daily newspaper in Virginia hope to re-invent community journalism with an Internet twist.

Most of the stories that will be published in the new weekly newspaper on the Iron Range will appear first in the online version of the publication, called Hometown Focus.

Brothers Scott and Jeff Asbach say most of the newspaper’s content will come from readers.

Scott Asbach was publisher of the Mesabi Daily News and Jeff Asbach was its general manager. The two left the newspaper in 2006.

The Hometown Focus Web site has published since January. The print edition will debut April 27.

The Asbachs say the print edition of Hometown Focus will begin by circulating 15,000 copies. It will be given away for free at first but then become a subscription-only publication.
