Merlin Leqve -- Kasson

KASSON -- The funeral for Merlin Leqve will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson, with the Rev. John Weisenburger officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, with military graveside rites by the Byron American Legion.

Mr. Leqve, 90, of Dodge Center, formerly of Kasson, died Saturday (July 5, 2003) at Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center, where he had lived since 1998.

Born Aug. 6, 1912, in Dodge County, he grew up there, worked in Chicago for a time and from 1941 to 1945 served in the Army. On Feb. 24, 1945, he married Helen M. Spaid in Ogden, Utah. They lived in rural Byron before moving to Kasson in 1989. Mr. Leqve was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson, a 58-year member of the Byron American Legion and a member of the Kasson Senior Citizens. He enjoyed horses, repairing harnesses, gardening, playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry (Ruth) of Lake City; two daughters, Diane (Wendell) Engelstad of Owatonna and Karen (Robert) Tracy of Kasson; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Betty (Robert) Akenhead of Sun City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dibble Funeral Home in Kasson and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
