Mildred Eileen Wencl -- Austin

AUSTIN -- A memorial service for Mildred Eileen Wencl will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, with the Rev. Hilmore Williams officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Mrs. Wencl, 82, of Austin, died Wednesday (May 18, 2005) at Austin Medical Center.

Mildred Christensen was born July 7, 1922, in Mora, Minn. Her family moved to Austin, where she attended Austin Public Schools. She married James E. Wencl on Dec. 4, 1939, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, and they lived in the house in Austin that Mr. Wencl built; he died in 1983, and she lived there until her last illness. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking, cake decorating and creating Christmas cookie platters.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon (William) Lewis and Linda (Burton) Boe, both of Austin, Paulette (Robert) Lee of Bloomington, Minn., and Darci Rehagen of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons, Gary (Audrey) of Blooming Prairie and Dennis (Patty) of Minneapolis; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Vernon Christensen of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by one son, one grandson, one great-grandchild, two sisters and one brother.

Friends may call for a half-hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be no reviewal.
