GRAND MEADOW -- The funeral for Milton Fred Griffel will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Grand Meadow, with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery.
Mr. Griffel, 82, of Grand Meadow, a retired farmer, died Saturday (April 13, 2002) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born June 30, 1919, in Newell, Iowa. On Dec. 25, 1942, he married Vivian Seemann at her parents' home near Grand Meadow. They farmed at Newell and later near Ellsworth, Iowa, until 1950, when they purchased a farm near Grand Meadow. In 1983, they retired. He was a member of United Church of Grand Meadow, held offices on the church board and in the Men's Club, and was a member and officeholder of the Mower County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed farming and reading.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol (Wayne) Gehling of Grand Meadow; four grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Buhr of Momence, Ill. A daughter and a brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
