Minn. artist Kara Pavelich dies in accidental fall

LUTSEN, Minn. — North Shore artist Kara Pavelich, the wife of former U.S. Olympic hockey and NHL star Mark Pavelich, died in an accidental fall at her home in Lutsen. She was 44.

The Duluth News Tribune reports Pavelich died Thursday when she fell about 20 feet from a second-story balcony. The Cremation Society of Minnesota confirmed her death Sunday.

Pavelich had a stylized acrylic painting career that made her well-known along the North Shore of Lake Superior with her artwork on canvas and T-shirts and rocks.

She married Mark Pavelich of Eveleth in 1994. He was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic gold-medal team. He played in seven NHL seasons between 1981 and 1992, nearly all with the New York Rangers.

Services are set for Saturday in Tofte.
