MINNEAPOLIS -- A Minneapolis police officer was cleared in the deadly shooting of a Detroit man last spring.
A Hennepin County grand jury found Thursday that Officer Mark Bohnsack, a five-year department veteran, did not use criminal excessive force when he shot and killed 31-year-old Eric Von Netters in early May.
After being pulled over on a traffic stop, Von Netters attempted to take off while two officers attempted to pull him out of the car.
Officer James Boyd was dragged three blocks while dangling from the driver's-side door and then thrown from the car, injuring his right arm.
From inside the car, Bohnsack fired shots at Von Netters, hitting him in the neck and jaw. Von Netters died at the scene early.

Von Netters was a fugitive after fleeing Minnesota authorities in July 2001 when he failed a drug test while on intensive supervised release on a felony crack cocaine conviction.
