PETERSON, Minn.- Minnesota will be represented in a national youth beef quiz bowl Feb. 3 at the Cattle Industry Annual Convention in Denver.
Rushford-Peterson High School freshmen Jordan Bergan, Ben Markegard, Ross Anderson, senior Tyler Johnson and Chatfield High School graduate Justin Blumer have been practicing weekly in preparation for the contest.
Their industry knowledge will be tested against as many as seven other teams in the competition put on by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. The grand prize is $500 for the team to share and plaques.
Kari Johnson, who is helping the team prepare, said they are gaining a wealth of knowledge in practices that will help in their future careers.
"These are farm kids, they all have an interest in agriculture even beyond high school," she said.

The Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association and the Fillmore County Cattlemen are financially supporting their trip.
"This will be the first trip to the national cattlemen's conference for any of us," said Kari.
Bergan, Markegard, Anderson and Blumer took first place in October at Minnesota Beef Expo's quiz bowl. Johnson has since joined the group.
Their Feb. 2-5 trip will also include a cattle judging contest plus tours of a feedlot and packing plant.
