SANDWICH, England -- Maybe Tiger Woods never had the British Open championship in his hands Sunday but it was certainly inches from his grasp.
Just one shot off the lead after Thomas Bjorn's collapse, Woods needed to birdie one of the final two holes to force a playoff -- a gargantuan task on two difficult holes certainly but we've seen him do this kind of stuff before.
Not Sunday.
Woods doomed himself with a bogey on 17, his second in the last four holes, and finished one over for the tournament and two shots out. He tied Davis Love III for fourth, his first top 10 finish in a major this year. He has also now gone four straight majors without winning since his U.S. Open at Bethpage in '02.
