Modified touring series returns
By Steve Webb
The United States Modified Touring Series is back in action in this area on Aug. 13-14-15.
The USMTS will be racing at a special on Aug. 13 at the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson, then goes on for two consecutive nights at the Steele County Fair in Owatonna on Aug. 14th and 15th.
Those races all pay $2,000 to win.
The USMTS will also be back at Deer Creek on Aug. 31st for a Saturday night special. Then Deer Creek will host the annual Fall Jamboree for USMTS on Sept. 19-20-21. That special three-night series should draw some of the best cars in the country.
The Thursday race pays $2,000 to win and will also include WISSOTA Super Stocks and Pure Stocks. Friday will pay $4,000 to the USMTS winner and has Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds as well. Then on Saturday, the USMTS feature pays $6,000 to win. The Super Stocks payout on the final night will be $1,500 to win.
In the USMTS North Region points standings, Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie is the current leader. He has three feature wins in 13 races. Myer and Iowa driver Kelly Shryock have a substantial lead over the rest of the field.
Tim Donlinger of Rochester has won once, but has finished in the top five on four occasions and is fifth in points. Mark Noble of Blooming Prairie is eighth in points and Todd Klees of Rochester is 11th.
Speaking of Noble, his father, Dave was recently inducted into the Independence Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in Iowa. Dave Noble, in addition to being a popular race driver in this area 40 years ago, was also successful on the Iowa circuit. He was track champion in St. Charles, Kasson and Rochester in 1964.
