ST. PAUL — A St. Paul mother who repeatedly locked her two children in a bedroom with a bungee cord has been sentenced to 120 days in the county workhouse.
Twenty-four-year-old Alexis Anabelle Kennedy pleaded guilty January 23 to two counts of gross misdemeanor child neglect. She was sentenced Thursday.
The two young children remain in protective custody. Kennedy’s attorney says her client loves her children and wants to get them back.
The criminal complaint says police went to Kennedy’s apartment in early January after a caller said a 5-year-old girl crawled out of a window and was walking in the snow and ice without shoes or a coat.

Police found the bedroom door tied shut with a bungee cord. Feces was smeared on the walls and the 2-year-old boy inside was crying and had a soaked diaper.
After her workhouse time, Kennedy will be required to follow the recommendations of child protection service.
