Mower County United Way more than halfway to goal

From staff reports

The "temperature" keeps rising on the United Way of Mower County thermometer.

Volunteers have raised more than half of this year’s $920,000 goal.

The 2006 campaign is in its final stretch, with $533,059.41 collected to date.

Companies such as Quality Pork Processors, Hormel Foods Corp., Austin Medical Center and Austin public schools are still running campaigns.

"It’s been a busier than usual campaign season for us," said Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt, executive director. In addition to the campaign, United Way collaborated with community businesses and organizations to collect and distribute coats for this winter.

More than 600 items were collected, and 189 children and adults received coats, hats and mittens to ward off winter’s cold and snow.

United Way supports more than 55 programs throughout Mower County. "When you give to United Way you're helping people you know," Lighthizer-Schmidt said.

To donate, call the United Way of Mower County at 433-2313 or send a check to Box 605, Austin, MN 55912.
