According to a poll by the famed London Tech Music School, which has taught members of Radiohead, the Kinks and the Cure, Deep Purple’s "Smoke on the Water" has the greatest guitar riff of all time.
The rest of the top five, in order: "Smells Like Teen Spirit," by Nirvana; Aerosmith’s "Walk This Way"; Jimi Hendrix’s "Purple Haze"; and "Sweet Child O’ Mine," by Guns N’ Roses.
