The region could get its average December snowfall before the month is even a week old.
Snow fell Tuesday across southeastern Minnesota, dropping 3 to 5 inches and leaving 6 to 7 inches on the ground, according to the National Weather Service at La Crosse, Wis. In Rochester, that brought the monthly total to 6.9 inches, which is about 4 inches below the 10.8-inch average.
We could get that in the next few days.
The forecast calls for sunny skies today with brisk winds, but skies will turn cloudy tonight. Thursday will bring a chance for 1 to 3 inches of snow, mostly in the afternoon. Winds will blow that snow around. Snow will continue into the night, with a low around 16 and gusty winds.
Friday will be partly sunny with a high in the low 20s.
