Nellie Irene Roe -- Hayfield

HAYFIELD -- The funeral for Nellie Irene Roe will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Hayfield, with the Rev. Charlie Talcott officiating. Burial will be in LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Roe, 89, of Hayfield, a retired grocery store employee, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2003) at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.

Nellie Irene Pitcock was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Mitchellville, Iowa, and later moved to the Waltham area and attended rural schools. In 1937, she married Otis Roe, and they lived in Taopi and later in Missouri for 20 years. After her husband's death, the family moved to Winona, and she was a baker at Randall's Super Valu for 14 years until 1978, when she retired and moved to Hayfield. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hayfield.

Survivors include a daughter, Jolene (Leonard) Rollins of Hayfield; a son, Dwight (Barbara) of Winona; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl (Joseph) Sternhagen of Rose Creek. She was preceded in death by an infant great-granddaughter and eight siblings.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
